Which texting app should I use?

Use Google Messages with Google Contacts. Messages Plus is a backup option.

Our recommendation

Use Google Messages for all your texting, together with Google Contacts for your contacts. Using them together helps names show up correctly on your texts and calls.

App

When to use it

Google Messages

Always, for everything

Messages Plus

Only if Google Messages isn’t working for you. It’s in your app store, so you can install it and try it.

Change your default texting app

Go to Settings → Apps & notifications → Default apps → SMS app and choose the app you want.

Keep Google Messages up to date

Open the Kosher Qin Phone app → Updates tab, swipe down to refresh, and update Google Messages. If you see a message asking you to update Google Play Services, update Google Play Services in the same tab, then restart your phone.

Good to know

  • RCS (“Chat features”) is not officially supported. If texting isn’t working right, turn it off. See My texts say “not sent” or group texts are missing (RCS).

  • Gemini inside Google Messages is blocked, because we don’t allow AI features.

  • Never press “Clear storage” on your messaging app. It deletes all your messages. Clearing the cache is safe.

  • The pre-installed messaging app can’t be uninstalled.
