Sometimes apps don’t match a name to a number, especially when a contact is saved with “+1” in one place and without it in another.
Steps
Use Google Messages for texting and Google Contacts for your contacts. They match names to numbers most reliably.
Turn on contacts sync: Settings → Accounts (or Settings → Google) → your Google account → make sure Contacts sync is on.
If names still don’t show, deleting and re-importing your contacts can fix it.
Don’t use Google Phone
The Google Phone app (Phone by Google) is not recommended on this phone. It can break caller names, cause a stuck call screen, and the physical keypad doesn’t work with it. Use the pre-installed phone app.
