Should I factory reset my phone?

A factory reset erases everything. It's a last resort, so please contact us first.

A factory reset is a last resort. Most problems can be fixed without it. Please contact us before you do a factory reset.

What a factory reset does

  • It erases everything: contacts, text messages, photos, app data and logins. There is no undo.

  • The filter stays on after a reset. It is not removed.

  • Your app store stays the same. You’d need to download your apps again.

Try these first

Many problems are fixed by one of these safe steps, which don’t erase your data:

  • A restart, or a forced restart (hold the power button for 30–60 seconds)

  • Updating everything in the Kosher Qin Phone app → Updates tab

  • Clearing the cache of the app that’s having trouble

  • Reset network settings for service, Wi-Fi or Bluetooth problems (see What does “Reset network settings” do?)

  • Refresh Session for Kosher Qin Phone app sign-in problems (Kosher Qin Phone app → ☰ → Tools → Refresh Session)

A factory reset won’t fix battery drain or no service.

Safe vs. erases everything

Safe (no data lost)

Erases everything

Restart or forced restart

Factory reset / Erase all data

Reset network settings

“Wipe data” on a recovery screen

Clear cache of an app

Clear storage of Messages, Contacts or Gallery (erases that app’s data)

If we recommend a reset

Back up first:

  1. Contacts: make sure they’re synced to Google Contacts.

  2. Texts: SMS Backup & Restore, if it’s in your app store.

  3. Photos: Google Photos.

See How do I back up my phone before sending it in? for more backup tips.
