No service is usually caused by a carrier setting, the phone’s network settings, or the APN settings. Most of the time it’s fixable with the steps below.
Quick checks first
Airplane mode is off (swipe down from the top of the screen).
Mobile data is on.
The SIM is placed correctly, with the gold chip facing up (visible).
Does the phone say “No SIM card”? Then see My phone says “No SIM card” instead.
The 5 steps (in this order)
Verizon or a Verizon-based carrier: call your carrier and confirm with a different representative that “CDMA-less” is really turned on for your line. On US Mobile’s Warp network, switch to Light Speed or Dark Star in your US Mobile account instead.
Reset network settings: go to Settings → System → Reset → Reset network settings (it may be called “Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth”). Then restart the phone. This does not erase your data. It only forgets saved Wi-Fi networks and Bluetooth pairings. Do not press “Factory reset” or “Erase all data”. That erases everything on the phone.
Set the APN: get your carrier’s APN settings (from the carrier or its website) and enter them at Settings → Network & internet → Mobile network → Advanced → Access Point Names. You can also try Reset to default from the menu on that page. If the APN page says editing is blocked or not allowed, contact us.
Contact your carrier again so they can check your line (account blocks, line status, SIM).
Still not working? Contact us with what you tried and your phone’s IMEI (Settings → About → IMEI). We’ll check things on our side.
Helpful to know
If your SIM works in another phone, or a SIM from a different carrier works in this phone, tell us. It helps narrow things down.
If one carrier keeps failing, our own cellular plans work out of the box. See What cellular plans do you offer?
Weak signal only indoors or in some places is a different issue. See My signal is weak indoors or in some areas.
