GPS or location isn't working in Waze or Google Maps

Turn on location, allow it all the time, and check your connection.

Steps

  1. Turn on location: go to Settings → Location and make sure it’s on.

  2. Allow location all the time: go to Settings → Apps & notifications → [Waze or Google Maps] → Permissions → Location and choose Allow all the time.

  3. Turn off battery optimization for the app: Settings → Apps & notifications → [the app] → Battery optimization → Not optimized. This stops navigation from pausing when the screen turns off.

  4. Check your connection: make sure you have mobile data or Wi-Fi.
